Overview
For centuries, India has been celebrated as a land where spirituality transcends religious divides. Sanathana Dharma teaches that spirituality is the essence of human existence, rising above life, death, and all belief systems. Through the divine will of Brahmam, the complete truth of human life was revealed to Navajyothisree Karunakara Guru. Born 90 years ago in the humble village of Chandiroor, Cherthala, Guru’s unwavering spiritual path led to the establishment of Santhigiri Ashram in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Today, the Ashram continues its sacred mission with branches in Cherthala (Janmagriham), Haripad, Kottarakkara, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Kannur, Sultan Bathery, Palakkad, Kallar, Kumily, Cochin, Kottayam, Madurai, Kanyakumari, and Bangalore, preserving and advancing Guru’s profound vision for this era.

Description
Navajyothisree Karunakara Guru was born on September 1, 1927 (16th of Chingam, Kolla Varsham 1103), in the serene village of Chandiroor, Kerala. His father, Sri Govindan, passed away when Guru was still an infant, leaving His mother, Smt. Karthyayani, to raise Him. From a very young age, Guru’s spiritual journey began to unfold through extraordinary visions, including one of a radiant figure bathed in light. Initially believed to be mute, He began to speak under the guidance of this divine presence, which He later identified as Sri Krishna. This presence vanished from His sight by the age of nine.
Guru’s early life was marked by exceptional discipline and devotion, revolving around simplicity, cleanliness, and constant prayer. After His mother’s remarriage, He moved into His stepfather’s home. However, feeling a deep inner calling, He left at the age of 14 to pursue a monastic life. He joined the Advaita Ashram in Alwaye, where He served for 17 years under the spiritual lineage of Sree Narayana Guru at Sivagiri Mutt. Although He earned great respect from many, He also faced opposition from some quarters.
In 1957, Guru decided to part ways with Sivagiri and settled in a humble hut on a nearby hilltop. Soon, people began visiting Him, seeking His healing abilities for both physical and spiritual ailments. His spiritual journey further expanded through His association with Khureshia Fakir, a Sufi saint, which enriched His spiritual insight. In 1968, a profound vision led Guru to establish Santhigiri Ashram in Pothencode, on land donated by a well-wisher.
After years of deep meditation, Guru achieved spiritual fulfillment on September 20, 1973 (4th of Kanni, Kolla Varsham 1149), realizing: “What I had been waiting for, through Yugas, is realized.” With this enlightenment, He introduced a worship system centered on Brahman, the Universal God, guiding His followers along the Guru Margam, or Path of the Guru.
On May 6, 1999 (23rd of Medam, Kolla Varsham 1174), Guru left His physical form, merging into ‘Adisankalpam’ (the Plane of Primordial Consciousness). Even today, it is believed that He continues to guide the world as ‘Nava Oli’ (New Light and Sound). His teachings are carried forward by His principal disciple, Her Holiness Sishyapoojitha Amritha Jnana Thapaswini, who now leads Santhigiri Ashram as the ‘Gurusthaneeya’ (Guru Apparent), ensuring the Ashram remains a sanctuary of healing, peace, and spiritual wisdom for all those seeking enlightenment.
