Overview

Branches in Idukki:

For centuries, India has been revered as a land where spirituality transcends religious boundaries. Sanathana Dharma teaches that spirituality is the essence of humanity, surpassing life, death, and belief. Through the divine will of Brahmam, the complete reality of human existence was revealed to NAVAJYOTHI SREEKARUNAKARA GURU. Born 90 years ago in humble surroundings in Chandiroor, Cherthala, Guru’s life was marked by relentless spiritual pursuit. He later founded Santhigiri Ashram in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Today, the Ashram has expanded with branches in Cherthala (Janmagriham), Haripad, Kottarakkara, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Kannur, Sultan Bathery, Palakkad, Kallar, Kumily, Cochin, Kottayam, Madurai, Kanyakumari, and Bangalore, spreading the spiritual message Guru envisioned for our Yuga.

Description

Navajyothisree Karunakara Guru was born on the 16th of Chingam, Kolla Varsham 1103 (September 1, 1927), in the village of Chandiroor, Alappuzha district, Kerala. His father, Sri Govindan, passed away when Guru was only nine months old, leaving Him to be raised by His mother, Smt. Karthyayani. From an early age, Guru experienced profound spiritual visions, most notably a radiant figure that appeared within Him. Mistaken for mute due to His silence, He only spoke when prompted by this figure. By the age of nine, the vision faded, and He began speaking normally, later recognizing the figure as Sri Krishna.

As a child, Guru displayed exceptional discipline, living a life of simplicity, cleanliness, and regular prayer. At the age of 10, after His mother remarried, He moved to His stepfather’s home but felt restless. By the age of 14, He left in search of a monastic life, joining the Advaita Ashram at Alwaye, a branch of the Sivagiri Mutt founded by the revered Sree Narayana Guru. Over the next 17 years, He devoted Himself to various duties, gaining respect and recognition but also facing opposition from some factions.

In 1957, Guru left Sivagiri and settled in a small hut on a nearby hill, where His reputation as a healer grew. People came seeking relief from their ailments, and during this time, He embarked on spiritual wanderings with Khureshia Fakir, a Sufi saint, gaining deeper insights. In 1968, following a visionary experience, Guru established Santhigiri Ashram at Pothencode on land gifted by a well-wisher.

On the 4th of Kanni, Kolla Varsham 1149 (September 20, 1973), after years of intense spiritual practice, Guru attained spiritual fulfillment, marked by a divine revelation: “What I had been waiting for, through Yugas, is realized.” Guru introduced a worship system based on faith in the Universal God – the Brahman – and guided followers along the Guru Margam (Path of Guru).

On the 23rd of Medam, Kolla Varsham 1174 (May 6, 1999), Guru left His physical form, merging into ‘Adisankalpam’ (the Plane of Primordial Consciousness). Guru continues to guide the world as ‘Nava Oli’ (New Light and Sound), with His spiritual mission carried forward by His principal disciple, Her Holiness Sishyapoojitha Amritha Jnana Thapaswini. Santhigiri Ashram remains a beacon of solace, wisdom, and spiritual guidance, welcoming all who seek it.
