Overview

Branches in Ernakulam:

For centuries, India has been revered as a land where spirituality transcends religious boundaries. Sanathana Dharma teaches that spirituality is the core of human existence, going beyond life, death, and belief systems. Through the divine will of Brahmam, the complete reality of human life was revealed to NAVAJYOTHI SREEKARUNAKARA GURU. Born 90 years ago in humble surroundings in Chandiroor, Cherthala, Guru’s life was defined by an unwavering spiritual quest. He went on to establish Santhigiri Ashram in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Today, the Ashram has flourished, with branches in Cherthala (Janmagriham), Haripad, Kottarakkara, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Kannur, Sultan Bathery, Palakkad, Kallar, Kumily, Cochin, Kottayam, Madurai, Kanyakumari, and Bangalore, carrying forward the spiritual message Guru envisioned for this Yuga.

Description

Navajyothisree Karunakara Guru was born on the 16th of Chingam, Kolla Varsham 1103 (September 1, 1927), in the village of Chandiroor, Alappuzha district, Kerala. His father, Sri Govindan, passed away when He was just nine months old, leaving Him to be raised by His mother, Smt. Karthyayani. From an early age, Guru had profound spiritual experiences, including visions of a radiant figure that appeared within Him. Misunderstood as mute because of His silence, He spoke only when prompted by this figure. By the age of nine, the vision faded, and He began to speak normally, later recognizing the figure as Sri Krishna.

As a child, Guru exhibited extraordinary discipline, embracing a life of simplicity, cleanliness, and regular prayer. At 10, after His mother remarried, He moved to His stepfather’s home but felt unsettled. By 14, He left in search of a monastic life, joining the Advaita Ashram at Alwaye, a branch of the Sivagiri Mutt founded by the revered Sree Narayana Guru. Over the next 17 years, He devoted Himself to service, gaining respect and recognition, although facing opposition from certain groups.

In 1957, Guru left Sivagiri and settled in a small hut on a nearby hill, where His reputation as a healer grew. People came to Him for relief from their ailments, and during this time, He embarked on spiritual journeys with Khureshia Fakir, a Sufi saint, deepening His insights. In 1968, after a visionary experience, He established Santhigiri Ashram at Pothencode on land gifted by a well-wisher.

On the 4th of Kanni, Kolla Varsham 1149 (September 20, 1973), after years of intense spiritual practice, Guru attained spiritual fulfillment, marked by the divine revelation: “What I had been waiting for, through Yugas, is realized.” He introduced a worship system centered on faith in the Universal God – the Brahman – and guided followers along the Guru Margam (Path of the Guru).

On the 23rd of Medam, Kolla Varsham 1174 (May 6, 1999), Guru left His physical form, merging into ‘Adisankalpam’ (the Plane of Primordial Consciousness). Guru continues to guide the world as ‘Nava Oli’ (New Light and Sound), with His spiritual mission now carried forward by His principal disciple, Her Holiness Sishyapoojitha Amritha Jnana Thapaswini. Santhigiri Ashram remains a source of solace, wisdom, and spiritual guidance for all who seek it.
