Overview
For centuries, India has been revered as a land where spirituality transcends religious boundaries. Sanathana Dharma teaches that spirituality is the essence of human existence, rising above life, death, and belief systems. By the divine will of Brahmam, the profound truths of human life were revealed to Navajyothisree Karunakara Guru. Born 90 years ago in the humble village of Chandiroor, Cherthala, Guru’s unwavering spiritual path led to the establishment of Santhigiri Ashram in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Today, the Ashram continues its sacred mission, with branches across Cherthala (Janmagriham), Haripad, Kottarakkara, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Kannur, Sultan Bathery, Palakkad, Kallar, Kumily, Cochin, Kottayam, Madurai, Kanyakumari, and Bangalore, faithfully carrying forward Guru’s enduring vision with grace and dedication.

Description
Navajyothisree Karunakara Guru was born on September 1, 1927 (16th of Chingam, Kolla Varsham 1103), in the tranquil village of Chandiroor, Kerala. After His father, Sri Govindan, passed away when He was an infant, His mother, Smt. Karthyayani, lovingly raised Him. From a young age, Guru experienced remarkable spiritual visions, including a luminous figure bathed in light. Initially believed to be mute, He began speaking under the guidance of this divine presence, later identified as Sri Krishna. By the age of nine, this guiding presence vanished from His sight.
Guru’s childhood was marked by deep discipline and devotion, with a life focused on simplicity, cleanliness, and constant prayer. After His mother remarried, He moved to His stepfather’s home. However, driven by a powerful spiritual calling, He left at the age of 14 to embrace monastic life. He joined the Advaita Ashram in Alwaye and served for 17 years under the spiritual lineage of Sree Narayana Guru at Sivagiri Mutt, earning great respect, though He also encountered opposition.
In 1957, Guru chose to leave Sivagiri and settled in a modest hut on a nearby hilltop, where His healing abilities soon attracted those seeking relief from physical and spiritual afflictions. His spiritual journey deepened further through His connection with Khureshia Fakir, a Sufi saint. In 1968, following a profound vision, Guru established Santhigiri Ashram in Pothencode, on land generously donated by a well-wisher.
After years of intense meditation, Guru achieved spiritual fulfillment on September 20, 1973 (4th of Kanni, Kolla Varsham 1149), realizing, “What I had been waiting for, through Yugas, is realized.” This enlightenment led Him to establish a worship system centered on Brahman, the Universal God, guiding His followers on the Guru Margam, or Path of the Guru.
On May 6, 1999 (23rd of Medam, Kolla Varsham 1174), Guru left His physical form, merging into ‘Adisankalpam’ (the Plane of Primordial Consciousness). Today, He is believed to guide the world as ‘Nava Oli’ (New Light and Sound). His teachings are upheld by His principal disciple, Her Holiness Sishyapoojitha Amritha Jnana Thapaswini, who now leads Santhigiri Ashram as the ‘Gurusthaneeya’ (Guru Apparent), ensuring it remains a source of healing, peace, and spiritual wisdom for all who seek enlightenment.
