Overview
For centuries, India has been celebrated as a land where spirituality transcends religious boundaries. Sanathana Dharma teaches that spirituality is the essence of human existence, transcending life, death, and all belief systems. By the divine will of Brahmam, the complete truth of human life was revealed to Navajyothisree Karunakara Guru. Born 90 years ago in the humble village of Chandiroor, Cherthala, Guru’s unwavering spiritual journey led to the establishment of Santhigiri Ashram in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Today, the Ashram continues its sacred mission with branches in Cherthala (Janmagriham), Haripad, Kottarakkara, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Kannur, Sultan Bathery, Palakkad, Kallar, Kumily, Cochin, Kottayam, Madurai, Kanyakumari, and Bangalore, upholding Guru’s profound vision for this era.

Description
Navajyothisree Karunakara Guru was born on September 1, 1927 (16th of Chingam, Kolla Varsham 1103), in the village of Chandiroor, Alappuzha district, Kerala. His father, Sri Govindan, passed away when Guru was just nine months old, leaving Him to be raised by His mother, Smt. Karthyayani. From an early age, Guru experienced profound spiritual visions, including a radiant figure bathed in light. Initially thought to be mute, He spoke only under the guidance of this divine presence, which faded by the time He was nine. He later recognized this figure as Sri Krishna.
As a child, Guru exhibited exceptional discipline, living a life of simplicity, cleanliness, and devotion to prayer. Around the age of 10, after His mother remarried, He moved to His stepfather’s home. Driven by a deep spiritual calling, He left at 14 to embrace a monastic life. Guru joined the Advaita Ashram in Alwaye, affiliated with the Sivagiri Mutt founded by Sree Narayana Guru, where He served diligently for 17 years. Despite earning widespread admiration, He faced opposition from some.
In 1957, Guru left Sivagiri and settled in a modest hut on a nearby hill. His healing abilities soon attracted people seeking relief from various ailments. During this period, He also undertook spiritual journeys with Khureshia Fakir, a Sufi saint, which further deepened His spiritual insights. In 1968, following a profound vision, Guru established Santhigiri Ashram at Pothencode on land donated by a well-wisher.
After years of intense meditation, Guru achieved spiritual fulfillment on September 20, 1973 (4th of Kanni, Kolla Varsham 1149), with the realization: “What I had been waiting for, through Yugas, is realized.” He introduced a worship system centered on faith in the Universal God, Brahman, guiding His followers along the Path of Guru (Guru Margam).
On May 6, 1999 (23rd of Medam, Kolla Varsham 1174), Guru left His physical form and merged into ‘Adisankalpam’ (the Plane of Primordial Consciousness). It is believed that He continues to guide the world as ‘Nava Oli’ (New Light and Sound). His spiritual legacy is carried forward by His principal disciple, Her Holiness Sishyapoojitha Amritha Jnana Thapaswini, who now leads Santhigiri Ashram as the ‘Gurusthaneeya’ (Guru Apparent). Today, Santhigiri Ashram stands as a beacon of healing, peace, and spiritual wisdom for all those seeking enlightenment.
