Abstract

A 42-year-old woman reported severe constipation since childhood, experiencing hard, dry stools every two days, abdominal pain, headaches, and frustration. Despite frequent use of laxatives, she found no long-term relief. After switching to naturopathy for a holistic approach, which included dietary changes, detox therapies, and mind-body sessions, her condition improved dramatically. Within a month, her constipation was resolved, and she reported weight loss, better sleep, and an improved outlook on life.

The Case Study

Signs & Symptoms:

  • Hard, dry stools
  • Infrequent bowel movements (once every two days)
  • Need to strain during defecation
  • Headaches and abdominal pain when stools were not passed for 3 days
  • Increased stress and frustration
  • Dependency on laxatives (3-4 times a week)

Treatment:

The treatment focused on addressing both the physical and psychological aspects of constipation, utilizing a blend of naturopathy and mind-body therapies.

  • Diet and Fasting: The patient began with a fruit fast on the first two days, followed by a fiber-rich diet consisting of fruits, vegetables, and millets. She was advised to fast once a week.
  • Eliminative Therapies: Neutral water enemas, mud baths, mud packs, and cold hip baths were administered in the first week to encourage natural bowel movement.
  • Physical Exercises: Abdominal massages and foot reflexology were introduced in the second week to stimulate bowel function.
  • Mind-Body Connection: In the third week, she underwent mind-body detox sessions to release emotional stress and trauma, which were contributing to her chronic constipation. She was also taught 15 rounds of Brahmari Pranayama (breathing exercises) daily.

 

The Results

Prognosis:

The patient experienced significant improvements from the second day of treatment, with easier bowel movements after enema and fruit fasting. By the third week, her defecation frequency normalized, and she felt mentally and physically lighter. Her constipation was completely resolved after one month of treatment, and she maintained a healthier lifestyle with yoga, a balanced diet, and regular fasting.

Summary Line:

A holistic naturopathic approach, combined with mind-body detoxification, successfully cured a lifelong case of chronic constipation in just one month.
